Provincial Mixed Curling Championship Recap

This season, the provincial mixed championship was held at the Des Collines Curling Club from April 8 to 12. A total of 12 teams participated and were divided into 2 sections of 6 teams. The preliminary round took place from April 8 to 10, while the playoffs were held on April 11 and 12.

In each of the 2 sections, the two favored teams managed to qualify for the playoffs. In Section A, Team Asselin (Glenmore) qualified with a 5-0 record, while Team Martel (Chicoutimi/Nairn/St-Bruno) qualified with a 4-1 record. In Section B, Team Tremblay (Buckingham/Victoria/Jacques-Cartier/Etchemin) posted a perfect 5-0 record, while Team Desjardins (Chicoutimi/Riverbend) qualified with a 4-1 record.

In the A1-B1 game, team Asselin had to score 2 points in the 8th and steal one point in the extra end against team Tremblay to earn their spot directly in the final with a 6-5 win. In the A2-B2 game, team Desjardins scored four points in the fourth end and ended up with a 9-6 win.

In the semifinal, team Tremblay played team Desjardins. With the score tied after 8 ends, the game entered an extra end. During the extra end, team Desjardins were able to score one point with the hammer to win the game 6-5.

In the final, team Asselin started the game with hammer but we’re limited to one point in the first end. Both teams then traded three straight ends of two points for the team with hammer and the score was 4-3 for team Desjardins at the mid game break. Team Asselin once again scored a single point in the 5th to tie the game and team Desjardins did the same in the 6th to regain a one point lead. After blanking the 7th team Asselin were able to score 2 points on the last rock of the game to win by a score of 6-5.

Congratulations to team Asselin who will now represent us from November 8th to 14th at the Canadian championship played in Prince Edward Island.
