Last weekend, from October 9 to 12, the first Junior Excellence Series tournament took place at the Trois-Rivières Curling Club. The Trois-Rivières Curling Club was bustling with activity this past weekend, hosting not only the junior tournament but also the ICEPAD elite tournament.
A total of 11 teams participated in the junior tournament: 8 women’s teams and 5 men’s teams hit the ice. The men’s division was played as a round-robin tournament with four games, while the women’s division used a crossover pool format, allowing each team to play four preliminary games.

On the girls’ side, the competition was very close throughout the tournament. After strong performances in the preliminary rounds, Team Smith from New Brunswick earned a spot in the final, where they faced Team St James from Pointe-Claire on Monday afternoon.
The championship game was closely contested from start to finish, with both teams trading points throughout the match. In the end, Team St James gained the upper hand by scoring two points in the 7th end, an advantage they were able to hold onto through the remainder of the game to secure the victory.
Congratulations to Team St James!
On the boys’ side, team Domino’s, led by Noah Noseworthy and representing St-Lambert, had an excellent run throughout the tournament. Thanks to a consistent performance and solid play from start to finish, the team completed the round robin with a perfect record.
In the final, however, the New Brunswick representatives had the last word. After a closely contested start, the Matheson team took control of the game by stealing two points in the 4th and 5th end, creating a lead that was difficult to overcome. Despite the Dominos’ team’s efforts to get back into the game, New Brunswick maintained its lead until the end to secure a 7–3 victory.
Congratulations to team Matheson!
