The 2021-22 season is quickly approaching! While we are confident that next season will be a “normal” season for competitive curling, we thought it would be a good idea to prepare some different scenarios to help teams properly plan their seasons. A big thank you to the players who collaborated with us to develop the different possibilities for the men’s, women’s and senior categories.
The following is a breakdown of the different scenarios applicable to the provincial circuit, official points ranking system and the circuit final:
- Scenario 1 – Normal season:
- The period to accumulate points will begin on August 1st and will end on December 5th. This option will only be applicable if all regions of Quebec were in a green or yellow zone for at least 4 consecutive weeks between August 15th and October 15th, 2021.
- The official points ranking system will be suspended and no points will be accumulated if one or more regions fall into an orange or red zone. This will be in effect until all regions return to yellow or green zones.
- Scenario 2 – Postponed start of the season:
- This option will be used if the pandemic situation in Quebec has not allowed all regions of Quebec to be in a green or yellow zone for a minimum of 4 consecutive weeks between August 15th and October 15th, 2021.
- Points accumulated before October 15th will not be considered for the 2021-22 season.
- Therefore, the period to accumulate points will begin on October 15th and will end on December 5th, 2021, if all regions in Quebec are in a green or yellow zone for at least a 4-week period during that time.
- The official points ranking system will be suspended, and no points will be awarded any time that one or more regions are in a red or orange zone. Points will resume when all regions are back to green or yellow zones.
- The men’s provincial championship (Tankard) spots will be allocated as follows:
- 1 – host region
- 4 – CTRS
- 4 – circuit points ($)
- 4 – Tankard qualification tournament
- 1 – circuit final champion
- The women’s provincial championship (Scotties) spots will be allocated as follows:
- 1 – circuit final champion
- 5 – circuit points ($)
- 4 – Scotties qualification tournament
- Scenario 3 – Beginning of the season is cancelled:
- Neither of the two above-mentioned scenarios was able to be used. The official points rankings will therefore be entirely cancelled for the 2021-22 season.
- The men’s provincial championship (Tankard) spots will be allocated as follows:
- 1 – host region
- 8 – qualified via circuit final (December 2-5)
- 5 – Tankard qualification tournament (December 16-19)
- The women’s provincial championship (Scotties) spots will be allocated as follows:
- 6 – qualified via circuit final (December 2-5)
- 4 – Scotties qualification tournament (December 16-19)
- Scenario 4 – Season cancelled until Christmas:
- Same process as used in 2021: Upon registration, teams will complete a curling biography including individual performances and team accomplishments. CQ’s Board of Directors will select the teams representing Quebec at the national championships in collaboration with a specialized committee from Curling Canada.
Men and women’s circuit final:
Since the official points ranking system was suspended for the 2020-21 season, the regular qualification process is not possible. We have therefore decided to use an open registration for the 2021 circuit final only. The event format will be determined based on the number of participating teams.
