Scenarios for the 2021-22 Season – Senior Category

The 2021-22 season is quickly approaching! While we are confident that next season will be a “normal” season for competitive curling, we thought it would be a good idea to prepare some different scenarios to help teams properly plan their seasons. A big thank you to the players who collaborated with us to develop the different possibilities for the men’s, women’s and senior categories. The following is a breakdown of the different scenarios applicable to the provincial circuit, official points ranking system and the circuit final:

• Normal season:
  • The period to accumulate points will begin on August 1^st and will end on December 31^st. This option will only be applicable if all regions of Quebec were in a green or yellow zone for at least 4 consecutive weeks between August 15^th and October 15^th, 2021.
  • The official points ranking system will be suspended, and no points will be accumulated if one or more regions fall into an orange or red zone. This will be in effect until all regions return to yellow or green zones.

• Postponed start of the season:
  • This option will be used if the pandemic situation in Quebec has not allowed for all regions of Quebec to be in a green or yellow zone for 4 consecutive weeks between August 15^th and October 15^th, 2021.
  • Points accumulated before October 15^th will not be considered for the 2021-22 season.
  • Therefore, the period to accumulate points will begin on October 15^th and will end on December 31^st, 2021, if all regions in Quebec are in a green or yellow zone for at least a 4-week period during that time.
  • The official points ranking system will be suspended, and no points will be awarded any time that one or more regions are in a red or orange zone. Points will resume when all regions are back to green or yellow zones.
  • The senior men’s provincial championship spots will be allocated as follows:
    • 1 – Champion of the circuit final
    • 1 – host club
    • 12 – regions
    • 2 – points ($)
  • The senior women’s provincial championship spots will be allocated as follows:
    • 12 – regions

• The beginning of the season is cancelled:
  • Neither of the two above-mentioned scenarios was able to be used. The official points rankings will therefore be entirely cancelled for the 2021-22 season.
  • The senior men’s provincial championship spots will be allocated as follows:
    • 1 – host club
    • 3 – via senior circuit final (December 16-19)
    • 12 – regions
  • The senior women’s provincial championship spots will remain unchanged:
    • 12 – regions

• Season cancelled until Christmas:
  • None of the three previous scenarios were applicable, and the circuit final was unable to be played.
  • The senior men’s provincial championship spots will therefore be allocated as follows:
    • 1 – host club
    • 12 – regions
    • 3 – extra spots allocated to the regions with the most registrations by pro rata
  • The senior women’s provincial championship spots remain unchanged:
    • 12 – regions
  • CQ will re-evaluate the situation at the beginning of January if necessary.

Senior men’s circuit final:

Since the official points ranking system was suspended for the 2020-21 season, the regular qualification process is not possible. We have therefore decided to use an open registration format for the 2021 circuit final only. The event format will be determined based on the number of participating teams.
