The 2024 Masters provincial championship ended on Sunday February 18th at the Club Sports Belvédère. We had a total of 9 wonderful days of competition with a total of 22 teams competing.
First, on the men’s side, 16 teams were divided into 2 pools of 8 teams. After the preliminary round, the top 2 teams from each pool qualified for the playoff round. In the A1 vs B1 game, Team Butler (Buckingham) defeated Team Lamy (Laval-sur-le-Lac / Rosemère) 5-4 to qualify directly for the final and sending Team Lamy to the semi-final. In the A2 vs B2 game, Team Laflamme (Sept-Îles) defeated team Bellavance 6-5 to qualify for the semi-final. Team Lamy were the winners in the semi-final game by a score of 5-3 and would get a chance to redeem their loss against Team Butler. In the final, Team Butler was able to complete their undefeated championship (9 victories) with an 8-2 win.
As the host province of this year’s national masters championship, Quebec was granted a second entry on the men’s side due to another member association confirming that they could not field a team for the Canadian final. This means that both Team Butler and Team Lamy will take part in the 2024 Canadian Masters championship which will be held from April 7th-14th 2024 at the Chicoutimi and Kenogami curling clubs.
