The 2026 Provincial Mixed Doubles Championship took place last weekend, from February 5 to 8, at the Aurèle-Racine Curling Club. For this championship, the twenty participating teams were divided into four sections of five teams and competed in a four-game round robin during the preliminary round. The top team from each section, along with the next eight best teams in the overall standings, qualified for the playoffs. While one team in each section finished with a perfect record of four wins and no losses, three of those four teams advanced to the semifinals.
In the first semifinal, the team of Anne-Sophie Gionest and Robert Desjardins (Riverbend and Chicoutimi) earned a convincing 9-3 victory over the team of Yannick Martel and Édith Cottenoit (Chicoutimi). In the second semifinal, the team of Sophie Sanscartier and Maxandre Caron (Boucherville) scored two points in the eighth end to secure their spot in the final with a 6-5 win over the team of Kelly Tremblay and Pierre Lanoue (Nairn and Boucherville).
In the final, Team Sanscartier/Caron had a dominant start, scoring three points in the first end and stealing an additional point in the second. After three single-point ends by the team with hammer, Team Sanscartier/Caron scored another three-point end to take an 8-2 lead. The sixth end proved to be the final one, as Team Gionest/Desjardins conceded the victory.
We would like to highlight the excellent work of our officials, Richard Roy and Mario Deshaies, as well as the Aurèle-Racine Curling Club for their hospitality.
We would also like to congratulate our new provincial champions for their perfect weekend of seven wins in seven games!
Some Quebec teams may also qualify for the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship based on their national ranking. This will be confirmed in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
