Over the past few months, several new broom heads were added to World Curling’s list of approved products for competitions which adhere to the sweeping moratorium. These additions mainly concern the foams used inside the broom heads. We think it is important to update our members on the present situation.
First, please note that there have been no changes concerning the fabric that can be used to produce legal broom heads. The only accepted fabric is the yellow Nylon Oxford 420D, and homemade products are not accepted. All brush heads (for products where the complete broom head is sold as a unit) and all covers (for products where the cover is sold separately) must show a code that is comprised of 3 letters and 2 numbers alternating. The list of codes is available on World Curling’s website (https://worldcurling.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/World-Curling-Approved-Product-Code-List_28-02-2025-change-log.pdf)
Second, we want to remind you that the use of a plastic insert between the foam and cover of a brush head remains prohibited during competitions.
Third, please note that players cannot mix and match components produced for different broom heads. Therefore, it would not be allowed to use the foam produced to be used in broom head A combined with a cover produced to be used with broom head B even if both products are approved separately for use during competitions. As always, broom heads can still be used with any type of broom handle.
Lastly, 3 new foams have been added to the list of approved products this season. These foams are the LiteSpeed RS 2.0 Firm and LiteSpeed XL RS 2.0 Firm sold by
BalancePlus, and the Pursuer foam sold by Goldline Curling. These 3 foams are easily recognized as being made of black foam. As of March 1st, the Pursuer foam from Goldline Curling was removed from the list of approved products for competitions. It is important to note that this applies only to the Pursuer foam and not to all black foams.
For any Curling Quebec competition in which the sweeping moratorium is in effect, the use of any World Curling approved broom head is permitted.
You can always visit World Curling’s website (https://worldcurling.org/brushes/) to view the list of approved products.
