The most anticipated announcement of the year is finally here! It is finally time to announce the two Quebec teams who will represent us at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the Tim Hortons Brier presented by AGI. Following the recent government lockdown announcement it became apparent that we would not be able to hold a provincial championship this year. The selection process was therefore done by the Curling Quebec Board of Directors in collaboration with a committee of experts at Curling Canada.
It is therefore with great pride that we present the 2021 Quebec representatives:
On the women’s side, Team St-Georges will represent us at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. The team is formed by Laurie St-Georges, Hailey Armstrong, Emily Riley, Cynthia St-Georges, Florence Boivin and Michel St-Georges (coach). It will be a first experience for the entire team at the national women’s championship, but all of the players have lots of experience at the national level in the U-21, U-18 and mixed categories. Team St-Georges was also the runner-up at the 2020 provincial women’s championship.
In the men’s event, Mike Fournier’s team was selected to wear the fleur de lys at the Brier. Team Fournier is completed by Martin Crête, Félix Asselin, Jean-François Trépanier, William Dion and Benoit Forget (coach). Their team participated in the national men’s championship in 2018 (without Martin Crête at the 3rd position) and they won the bronze medal at the 2020 provincial men’s championship. Martin Crête joined Team Fournier at the end of last season and this will be Martin’s 9th time competing in the Brier!
While this was certainly one of the strangest curling seasons that we can remember, we are certain that the two selected teams will be great provincial representatives and will make us very proud.
Good luck to Team St-Georges and to Team Fournier. We can’t wait to follow the action in a few weeks!
