Curling Québec welcomes the announcement made yesterday, October 15, 2020, by Minister Charest regarding the financial aid dedicated to the support of sports and recreational organizations for 2020-2021.
However, it is important to note that this financial push will be applied as an increase to our current subsidies for the 2020-2021 season and providing us with a boost to cover the lack of revenue due to the decrease in curler membership affiliations. The participation and contribution of our membership as a whole remain, therefore, crucial, more than ever, to allow us to continue to operate normally and without interruption throughout the year.
Furthermore, yesterday’s announcement did not address any financial support for curling clubs or any other sports clubs other than those already in motion (please see here for more details). We will continue our discussions with Sports Québec and the Ministry to advocate for additional resources to ensure our curling clubs’ financial sustainability.
