Last Sunday, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, several initiatives were organized in curling clubs across Quebec to promote our sport among girls and women in the province.
Girls Rock!
Thanks to the Girls Rock program, in partnership with Curling Canada, nearly 60 girls aged 9 to 16 had the opportunity to try curling. The free activity took place in the clubs of St-Lambert, Laval-sur-le-Lac, Town of Mount-Royal, Glenmore, and Montreal-West. Accompanied by several local instructors, participants learned the basics of curling and, most importantly, shared the passion for the sport in a fun, 100% girls-only environment.
Over the 2-hour-and-15-minute session, the girls got to throw, sweep, and play a curling game. Each participant also had the chance to enjoy a snack together and left with a t-shirt and a souvenir bag. Many girls caught the curling bug and are eager to come back!

Other initiatives across the province
Etchemin Curling Club
The afternoon was dedicated to learning, practicing, and building connections among girls. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the club opened its 4 sheets to welcome experienced players, beginners, friends, and family. Everyone could discuss curling, share experiences, try the game, or simply have fun on the ice.
Magog Curling Club
To celebrate March 8, a 100% women’s game was organized, allowing participants to play in all positions, from lead to skip. This exercise helped beginners better understand the flow of the game while having fun.
Jacques-Cartier Curling Club
The club hosted an on-ice training session followed by a friendly game between participants of Curling 101 for Women and their guests. The event also supported a great cause, benefiting the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.
