Last week, Team Ménard participated in the Canadian curling Olympic pre-trials in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. The team was made up of Jean-Michel Ménard, Félix Asselin, Martin Crête and Jean-François Trépanier.
As seven men’s and seven women’s teams were already qualified for the Olympic trials, the next best eight teams on the Canadian ranking were invited to participate in the pre-trials. The winning team on the men’s and women’s side would complete the list of teams who still have a chance to represent Canada at the 2026 Olympic games.
After seven very good games in the preliminary round, team Ménard had a record of 4 wins and 3 losses. The three best teams being qualified for the playoffs, team Ménard’s record was identical to the record of two other teams, giving them a tie for third place.
Unfortunately, the team did not have the tie breaker between the three teams as team Howard from Ontario (4-3) had obtained a win against team Ménard and team King (4-3). Team Ménard was therefore unable to continue in the playoff round.
In the end, team McDonald (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and team Sturmay (Edmonton, Alberta) won the men’s and women’s event. Both teams will therefore round out the list of qualified teams for the Olympic trials that will be played in Hallifax from November 22nd to 30th.
Congratulations Jean-Michel, Félix, Martin and Jean-François!
