Hi everyone! Here’s your weekly news:
1- Annual General Meeting: CQ’s AGM was presented on Sunday, September 16th. First and foremost, we would like to thank the St. Lambert Curling Club for hosting this important event. Curling Quebec’s Staff made presentations in the morning on the following topics:
– Affiliations
– Initiation and development programs
– Caledonia Cup
We would like to sincerely thank Ms. Ode Caron, Director of Placements Sports for Sports Quebec, for her presence and presentation of two very important programs for the federation and its affiliated clubs : Placements Sports & Fond Sports Québec.
The annual general meeting was presented in the afternoon and please note that a copy of the annual report will be sent to all affiliated clubs very shortly.
The Annual Report and General Rules 2018 are now available on our website by clicking here.
Have a nice curling season!
2- The Meritas Awards 2017-2018 announced: Last Sunday, September 16th, the Meritas Awards winners were announced during the Annual General Meeting. The Meritas Awards will be awarded individually throughout the season. The date and place will be decided between the winners and members of the board of Curling Québec. Congratulations to all winners! We invite you to consult the winners list by clicking here.
3- Curling Club Provincial Championship (Travelers) : The national sponsorship agreement between Travelers and Curling Canada (along with all of its provincial member associations) will end after the conclusion of the 2017-18 season following the Canadian Club Curling Championship in Miramichi, New-Brunswick in November 2018. What effect will that have in Quebec? The provincial championship will still be held annually in April however the nomenclature will be changed to the “Curling Club Provincial Championship” and the winning teams will still go on to represent Quebec at the Canadian championship. However, since there is currently no event sponsor, no financial assistance will be offered to the participating teams (hotel refunds, banquet, etc.) and this is both for the provincial championship as well as the Canadian championship. Curling Canada is actively searching for a new sponsor to support the curling club championships and Curling Quebec will keep you informed of any and all changes.
4- A scholarship from Hydro-Québec: Congratulations to Laurie and Cynthia St-Georges who are among the 29 student-athletes who were honored by the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence. The two sisters thus see their numerous efforts rewarded for a second consecutive year by receiving one of the scholarships presented by Hydro-Québec.
