Curling Quebec would like to congratulate Mr. Alain Deschâtelets, member of Buckingham Curling Club, who was recently bestowed with the great honour of being named the President of Canada’s prestigious Governor General’s Curling Club.
This historic club, founded in 1874, recognizes Canadians who have made a significant contribution to curling locally, provincially or nationally, not only as competitive curlers, but also as builders and administrators. The men and women of today’s Club come from all walks of life and are proud to be honoured by membership in this historic organization.
Since its inception in 1874 governors general have extended their patronage to the Governor General’s Curling Club. The development of curling in Canada, especially in the country’s early years from Confederation to the First World War, was in no small part due to the continuous support received from the governors general.
The governor general plays a key role in promoting national identity by supporting and promoting Canadian values, diversity, inclusion, culture and heritage. As such, the governor general is patron of many community, charitable, military and cultural associations, as well as public service organizations, lending them vital support and recognition for their outstanding contributions to society.
Congratulations Alain, we are very proud!
