This year, the World Curling Congress took place in Montreal, Canada from September 5th to 7th. One of the first scheduled events of the Congress was a reception at the historic clubhouse and ice shed of The Royal Montreal Curling Club, founded in 1807. At 217 years old, the RMCC is the oldest curling club (in fact, the oldest athletic club), still in operation in North America.
The RMCC event took place on September 5th and drew more than 180 curling delegates from dozens of countries around the world. Volunteer club members provided a warm welcome to all the participants, walking them over from their hotel in downtown Montreal to the club, and guiding them through the clubhouse and ice shed so that they could hear descriptions about the uniqueness of the Club’s history, the architecture its buildings, and view the many curling artefacts on display at the club. Food and drink were served featuring Canadian-inspired Montreal-based products, featuring a “Royal Blue cocktail” the signature drink of the RMCC designed this year on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the club’s “royal” designation on February 23rd, 1924.
“On the last day of the Congress, delegates were still talking about how much they enjoyed their evening their stay in Montreal. A great kick-off to the start of the 2024-2025 season!” (Michel Caie, President).
