The Canadian Masters Curling Championship took place from March 30 to April 6, 2025, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Twelve women’s teams and twelve men’s teams competed in this national event, with Quebec proudly represented by:
Women’s Team: Catherine Derick, Sylvie Daniel, Chantal Gadoua, Chantal Ouellette (Lacolle/Sherbrooke/Buckingham)
Men’s Team: Ted Butler, Richard Faguy, Roger Bertrand, Michel Laroche (Buckingham)
Both teams played five preliminary round-robin games, with the top four teams in each pool advancing to the championship round. Quebec’s women’s team qualified with a 3-2 record, while the men’s team advanced with an impressive 4-1 record.
In the championship round, both teams played four additional games in hopes of reaching the playoffs. The women added three more wins, and the men secured two, earning both Quebec teams a spot in the semifinals.
In the women’s semifinal, Quebec fell 7-1 to Alberta and then lost a close battle against Ontario, 6-4, in the bronze medal game. Congratulations to the team led by Catherine Derick for a great week of curling!
On the men’s side, Quebec lost their semifinal 9-1 to Manitoba but bounced back strong with a 7-4 victory over Ontario to claim the bronze medal. Congratulations to Ted Butler and his team on bringing home the bronze!
