The 2024 provincial mixed championship was held in our provincial capital region this season, at the Victoria curling club and ended on April 7th. This event had 12 participating teams all made up of 2 women and 2 men and was a great succès thanks to hard work of the organising committee, the volunteers, the ice technicians and our officials.
In the preliminary round, the 12 teams were separated in 2 pools of 6. In pool A, teams Morissette (Jacques-Cartier/Glenmore/Trois-Rivières) with a 5-0 record and Simard (Amos) with a 4-1 record qualified for the playoffs. In the B pool, team Doyon (Belvédère/Amos) qualified for the playoffs with a 5-0 record and teams Bowser (Buckingham/Des Collines/Etchemin/Victoria/Glenmore) and Doston (Ville Mont-Royal) had an identical record of 3-2 and had to play a tiebreaker game.
After earning a spot in the playoffs with a 5-4 win in the tiebreaker, team Bowser faced team Simard in the A2 vs B2 game and wo their second must win game with a score of 8-4. At the same time, team Morissette earned a direct spot in the playoff with a 6-4 win over team Doyon in the A1 vs B1 game.
In the semi-final, team Bowser added a third do or die win in the playoffs to their record with a 6-1 win against team Doyon and got their spot in the final.
The championship game was a back and forth battle as both teams traded multiple singles and the hammer through the game. In the final end as the score was 3-2, team Bowser was able to score the first multiple end of the game to win the game 4-3.
Thank you once again to all the participants and congratulations to our new provincial champions Don Bowser, Brenda Nicholls, Dan DeWaard and Pamela Nugent.
