Last week, the provincial government announced phase 2 of the easing of restrictions in sports, as outdoor group sports are now allowed to resume, so long as social distancing is followed. These announcements do not impact us directly for now but rest assured that we continue to work tirelessly toward curling’s return-to-play.
We are privy to encouraging updates, and everything points to future announcements coming soon. The reopening of indoor sports centres (gyms, arenas, curling clubs, training centres, etc.) will likely be authorized before the start of the curling season, and we do not expect significant obstacles to the relaunch of our activities.
At this stage, it is imperative not to get ahead of ourselves, avoid major improvements and other projects because the situation and, subsequently, guidelines may evolve or devolve quickly and significantly over the next weeks and months.
Like all other sectors in Quebec, we will need to remain flexible, adaptable and efficient, particularly in the eventuality of a possible second wave of the virus that may coincide with the beginning of our curling season.
We are currently working on a return-to-play protocol that we will present to the Ministry for approval; we expect to share this document with you all at the beginning of August at the latest. The protocol will cover in great detail all the recommended measures for the safe practice of curling following public health guidelines. We are also working alongside other provinces’ curling federations, as well as Curling Canada, to harmonize as much as possible our processes and steps forward.
We take this opportunity to remind you that the Canadian Emergency Business Account (CEBA) is an exciting and accessible program for the majority of curling clubs. Click here to find out more.
Please remember that our team remains at your disposal during these extraordinary times to answer your questions and to advise you should the need arise. Please do not hesitate to communicate with us.
