COVID-19 FORCES THE CANCELLATION OF THE 21ST EDITION OF THE CHALLENGE CASINO DE CHARLEVOIX
(CLERMONT) – Despite all its efforts and the support of all its partners, the organizing committee has no other choice but to cancel the 21st edition of the Challenge Casino de Charlevoix, scheduled for November 26th to 29th, 2020. The organization must act responsibly and respect a recent notice from public health authorities inviting all organizers and promoters to postpone or cancel any event that risks the increased contact between people.
Although the disappointment is great, the organizing committee understands the importance of the situation and wants above all to ensure the health of all. “We are aware of the economic impact of this decision on the tourism industry of Charlevoix, but with the recent evolution of the pandemic, welcoming players from all over Quebec, Ontario and the Maritime provinces, against a public health notice, would have been irresponsible. We will now focus our efforts on a comeback in November 2021 for the 21st edition of this event. Until then, we wish all curlers a good and safe season,” said Committee Chair Simon Gagné.
It is nonetheless interesting and promising to note that when the decision to cancel the tournament was taken, the Open and Senior categories were already sold out and 15 teams had already registered in the Elite category. In addition, almost all of the financial partners had confirmed their participation in this edition. The organizing committee wishes to cordially thank each team for their interest in the Challenge tournament. It also wants to assure all teams and curlers everywhere that it will do its utmost to welcome them to play in the Challenge Casino de Charlevoix again next year. The reimbursement process will be communicated to the players shortly
