The Canadian Stick Curling Championship began this morning in Nova-Scotia. The championship is played at the Windsor, Wolfville and Kentville curling clubs. The event is played until Sunday March 29th.
Starting this season, the championship presents 3 different categories. These categories are men’s (2 men), women’s (2 women) and mixed (1 man and 1 woman). Each category has a section reserved for provincial champions and a “Challenge” section with open registration.
In the women’s category, our representatives are in Pool B. Vayna Cormier and Johanne De Guise are both members of the Boucherville curling club. They will face in order team Buckingham/Blandford (Nova Scotia), Allardyce/Maywood (Manitoba), Grills/Thorbourne (Prince Edward Island), Kaufmann/Chateauvert (Alberta) and Girvan/Richard (New-Brunswick).
Our men’s representatives are from the Aurèle-Racine curling club. Réal Gervais and Serge Vincent will be in Pool D. During the preliminary round, they will play against Purvis/Fowler (Alberta), Bordeleau/Clarke (Nova Scotia), McDonald/Johnson (Manitoba), Barwise/Callaghan (Prince Edward Island) and Scheckenberger/Thurston (Ontario).
In the mixed category, our team will be in Pool F. Danielle Lever and Réjean Robitaille are also representing the Boucherville curling club. For their preliminary round, they will have games against Piercey/Piercey (Prince Edward Island) Galloway/Ohama (Alberta), Lohnes/Power (Nova Scotia), McBride/McBride (Nova Scotia) and Chalansky/Burns (British Columbia).
In the “Challenge” section, multiple Quebec teams will also be in action :
- 6 mixed teams will take part in the event. These teams are Diane Morissette and Daniel Tousignant (Sherbrooke), Raymonde Vaillancourt and Robert Weldon (Sherbrooke), Jean Lamère and Sylvye Turgeon (Laval-sur-le-Lac), Cathy MacCallum and Bruce MacCallum (Lacolle), Diane Morissette and Germain Bélisle (Sherbrooke), Céline Mercier and Gilles Bilodeau (Sherbrooke).
- 2 women’s team will also play in the vent. These teams are Diane Furey and Eva Pathak (Ormstown) and Debra Bryson and Louise Labelle (Ormstown)
