The pandemic has not halted the scheduling efforts for upcoming curling seasons! Québec’s young curlers will have a busy few years ahead! Take out your planners and start writing in all the events to come for our sport’s next generation. There are many events planned for young curlers for the 2021-2022 season at both the provincial and national levels, including a few new ones!

U-18 Men’s and Women’s Championships
- All athletes must be 17 years of age or less on June 30, 2021.
- The provincial championships will be played from January 5 to 9th, 2022 (location TBD).
- All registered teams can participate in the provincial championship (open registration).
- The Canadian U-18 championships will be held in Timmins, Ontario, from February 14-20, 2022.
- The national competition will have 21 teams of each gender (increased from 14 teams in previous events).
U-21 Men’s and Women’s Championships
- Athletes must be 20 years of age or less on June 30, 2022 (as per World Curling Federation rules to be eligible for 2023 World Juniors).
- The provincial championships will be held from February 23 to 27th, 2022 (location TBD).
- All registered teams can participate in the provincial championship (open registration).
- The Canadian championships will be held from March 25 to April 1, 2022 (location TBD).
- Teams may have one overage athlete (21 years of age or less on June 30, 2022).
- The winning teams will represent Canada at the 2023 World Junior championships. If the winning team includes an overage athlete who is not eligible to participate at the 2023 World Juniors, Curling Canada will work with the winning team to determine the replacement player.
- The national competition will have 18 teams of each gender (increased from 14 teams in previous events).
Curling Canada’s U-15 RockFest (NEW)
- There will be 4 regional U-15 RockFest events in Canada in 2022 (West, Prairies, East and Atlantic). These events will be held in March 2022 (locations TBD).
- Quebec athletes will attempt to qualify for the “East” regional event in both Singles and Triples. According to Curling Canada’s guidelines, clubs with athletes wishing to compete will hold events in their clubs (more information to come).
- Participants must pay their own expenses.
- Any athlete aged 14 years old or younger as of June 30, 2021, will be able to register to have their scores entered in Curling Canada’s Singles App for iOS and Android. Curling Canada’s Singles App will be launched next season.
- During the club’s qualification events, the results entered by coaches will be used to determine the athletes who are eligible to compete in the regional U-15 RockFest events.
- Note that there will be no provincial championship for this category.
2022 World Junior Championship Canadian Team Qualification Event (NEW)
- This one-time World Juniors Qualifier event is intended to provide a short-term fix to a problem created by the pandemic. It will determine two high-performance teams with medal potential at the 2022 World Junior Championships (Feb. 19-26, location to be announced by the World Curling Federation). Each province can send two teams (one team per gender) to the Junior Qualifier event. Participants must pay their own expenses.
- All athletes must be 20 years of age or less on June 30, 2021 (as per World Curling Federation rules to be eligible for 2022 World Juniors).
- The provincial championship will be held in October 2021 (dates and location TBD)
- The national championship will be held at the Granite Curling Club in Saskatoon, Nov. 22-27, 2021.
2023 Canada Winter Games
- The Canada Games will be held in Prince Edward Island from February 18 to March 5, 2023.
- There will be a new Under-20 Mixed Doubles event added to the competition.
- Under-18 Men’s and Women’s team events will also be played.
- More details on the Quebec selection process will be published by Fall 2021.
Junior Jamboree
- Three different categories available:
- U-15 Triples curling (all athletes must be 14 years of age or less on June 30, 2021).
- U-18 Triples curling (all athletes must be 17 years of age or less on June 30, 2021).
- U-21 Doubles curling (all athletes must be 20 years of age or less on June 30, 2021).
- The Jamboree will be held from January 28-30, 2022 (location TBD).
- The maximum number of participating teams will be determined based on the host club’s number of sheets.
Quebec Games
- All participants must be born between March 15, 2004, and February 15, 2010.
- The Quebec Games will be held in Rivière-du-Loup from March 6 to 12th, 2022.
- Regional events organized by each URLS will determine the participating teams.
- Each region can be represented by a maximum of one boys’ team and one girls’ team.
U-23 Invitational Event (NEW)
- This is a one-time event intended to provide an opportunity for athletes affected by missed junior events due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- To be held at the Lethbridge (Alberta) Curling Club, March 3-6, 2022.
- Format will be an invitational four-person men’s and women’s team event. Athletes can form a team with anyone in Canada.
- Event will be held during the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier opening weekend, and teams will watch the Wild Card game in person.
- Athlete ages are calculated on June 30, 2021; cumulative team age must be 88 years or less, and no athlete can be under 20 years old. Participants must pay their own expenses. Cash prizes.
- Age-eligible teams will be required to submit a written application to Curling Canada before December 1, 2021. Previous provincial/national experience is an asset. Additional information and the application process will be released after this curling season is over.
- Note that there will be no provincial championship for this category.
U-25 Invitational Event (NEW)
- Starting in 2022, a U-25 Invitational event will be held in September each year.
- Teams will apply, and selections will be based on Canadian Team Ranking System/Canadian Mixed Doubles Rankings standings from the previous year.
- Four-person men’s and women’s teams, and mixed doubles teams, will compete for cash prizes. Participants must pay their own expenses.
- Winning teams will be placed into Curling Canada’s NextGen Program that season.
- Athlete ages will be calculated on June 30, 2022; cumulative team age must be 96 years or less for four-person teams and 48 years or less for mixed doubles teams.
