This past weekend, 20 mixed doubles teams competed in 4 pools of 5 teams in a round robin format at Town of Mount Royal Curling Club. This new format for the 2023-2024 season saw the first place team in each pool qualified directly into the quarter-finals, and the next best 8 teams qualified for the eighth-finals. While Teams Cottenoir/Martel, Tremblay/Lanoue, Gionest/Desjardins and Gagné/Morissette qualified as the first place team in their pool, only the first three mentioned teams qualified for the semifinals, because Team Maheux/Maheux defeated Gagné/Morissette in the quarter final. In the semifinals, Tremblay/Lanoue defeated Gionest/Desjardins 7-2 and Maheux/Maheux defeated Cottenoir/Martel with the same score. The final between Maheux/Maheux and Tremblay/Lanoue was extremely close, but the Tremblay/Lanoue team won 8-7. As for the bronze medal game, unfortunately, a member of the Cottenoir/Martel team suffered from an injury during their semifinal game. As a result, they had to forfeit the game. Therefore, Team Gionest/Desjardins was declared the bronze medalist.
A big thank you to the host club for the wonderful event. It’s always a pleasure to meet all the volunteers who are working hard at the Town of Mount Royal club!
We would like to congratulate the winning teams for their performance over the weekend:
