As of 2022, Curling Canada will be using a new championship format for the U21 national championship. With the new format, 18 teams per sec will be invited to participate. The teams will be determined as follows:
- 1 team per province/territory (14 teams)
- 1 team from the host province/territory
- 3 teams from the provinces/territories that finished on the podium at the last Canadian championship.
In the event that a province or territory is unable to send a team, the available spots are allocated to the highest ranked provinces from the previous Canadian championship (4th place, 5th place, etc.).
Nunavut has informed Curling Canada that they would not be sending a team to the 2022 junior women’s championship, and since Quebec finished in 4th position at the last national championship, we have been offered a second entry to the event in the women’s section.
The provincial championship format will therefore be adapted in order to qualify the top two junior women’s teams. The exact format will be determined after the registration deadline (December 15, 2021) based on the number of registered teams.
