We are happy to anounce that we will be adding a championship to our callendar of events starting this season. The Provincial stick curling championship that has been held for a couple of years now was always organised independently, but the schedule and rules were sanctionned by Curling Quebec. After a meeting with the curent organisers, it was agreed to officially integrate this championship to Curling Quebec’s calendar.
By doing this, we wish to:
- Better the experience of the championship’s participant by making the champinship more official, but keeping the social and pleasent spirit that was part of the event in the previous years.
- Allow the championship to be held at a different club each year and allow more people to know about this event.
- Get more people playing stick curling.
- Allow curlers who do not wish to or who can’t throw a rock with a sliding delivery to still participate in Curling Quebec compatitions.
Stick curling is growing at a rapid pace in Canada and a national championship has been organised since 2005. This national event presents an open category and a women’s category.
Stick curling is played with teams of two players and one member from each team is placed at their own end of the sheet. This means that for one end, one team member will deliver all the team’s stones and the other member will act as the skip. The roles are reversed each end. Games consist of 6 ends with each team throwing 6 rocks per end which allows gome to be played within one hour. Sweeping is only permited once the rock has crossed the second hogline.
For this first edition of the championship that will be organised by Curling Quebec, we are glad to have the Sherbrooke curling club who have agreed to host this event from january 24th-26th 2025.
