Given the fact that the 2020-21 season is sure to be much more complex than usual, and we will likely run into many unpredictable scenarios throughout the year, many clubs have been hesitant to schedule events in all categories, including colts tournaments. Currently, there is only one scheduled tournament before the provincial championship in April. We were told that some players (notably those entering their 5th and final year of colts eligibility) were considering taking a year off from curling in order to not waste a season of colts eligibility.
Curling Quebec does not want to penalize any players, nor do we want to see players step away from curling for one year. This is especially true this season, since many clubs throughout the province will really be relying on their members’ support. With all of these points taken into consideration, Curling Quebec has decided not to consider the 2020-21 season as a year of curling experience in the colts category. Therefore, anyone who is eligible for colts this season will still be eligible to play in colts events in the 2021-22 season.
Example :
2020-21 Season – A team is composed of the following players:
– Marc-André (5th year of curling)
– Alanna (4th year of curling)
– France (3rd year of curling)
– Monica (3rd year of curling)
This team is clearly eligible to play in colts events in 2020-21.
2021-22 Season – The same team is still eligible due to the special rule for the 2020-21 season: Marc-André (5th year of curling due to the special rule)
– Alanna (4th year of curling due to the special rule)
– France (3rd year of curling due to the special rule)
– Monica (3rd year of curling due to the special rule)
This team is therefore still eligible for the 2021-22 season.
Please do not hesitate to contact Alanna (aroutledge@curling-quebec.qc.ca) if you have any questions.
Good curling everyone!
