The Provincial Tankard Hardline Men’s and Women’s Championship took place in Alma from January 13 to 19, 2025. Sixteen men’s teams and six women’s teams participated in the competition. We would like to extend our gratitude to the organizing committee and all the volunteers, including umpires and ice technicians, for their dedication and energy throughout the week.
On the women’s side, Team Saint-Georges finished the preliminary round undefeated with 5 wins and 0 losses, earning a direct spot in the final. The other two women’s teams, Team Fortin and Team Gagné, faced off in the semifinal, with Team Gagné emerging victorious to challenge Team Saint-Georges in the final. Team Fortin, composed of Mégane Fortin, Megan Lafrance, Emy Lafrance, and Jolianne Fortin, secured the bronze medal. In the final, Laurie Saint-Georges’ team triumphed over Emilia Gagné’s team. Congratulations to Emilia Gagné, Pamela Nugent, Brenda Nicholls, Kelly Tremblay, and Hannah Gargul for their outstanding week and excellent performance. Team Saint-Georges, consisting of Laurie St-Georges, Jamie Sinclair, Emily Riley, and Lisa Weagle, will represent Quebec at the Canadian Scotties Tournament of Hearts next month in Thunder Bay, Ontario. On the men’s side, the competition was fierce. Team Tremblay qualified through the A event, while Team Asselin advanced through the B event. Teams Roberge and Desjardins secured their spots via the C event. In the 3 vs. 4 Page Playoff game, Team Desjardins defeated their opponent to advance to the semifinal. The 1 vs. 2 Page Playoff game between Team Asselin and Team Tremblay was extremely close, with Félix Asselin’s team ultimately clinching a direct ticket to the final.
In the semifinal, Team Desjardins defeated Team Tremblay, leaving Team Tremblay with the bronze medal. In the final, Team Asselin excelled in the second half of the game to win the 2025 Provincial Championship. They will represent Quebec at the upcoming Montana’s Brier in March in Kelowna, British Columbia. Congratulations!
