Triple Elimination Qualifiers
While Kénogami Soudex on the girls’ side and Grand-Mère TALL on the boys’ side qualified for the playoffs through A, the B finals were won by Pointe-Claire U-18 on the girls’ side and Des Collines Réfrigération Gagnon on the boys’ side. Finally, the girls from the Noranda Domaine Opasatica and Riverbend/Opémiska teams qualified through the C finals, as did Pointe-Claire and Noranda/Buckingham Domaine Opasatica on the boys’ side.
Playoffs
On the girls’ side, Kénogami won in the extra end against Pointe-Claire in the Q1 vs. Q2 game. The Kénogami team then reached the final directly and secured one of the two berths for the Canadian championship. Pointe-Claire tried again to reach the final against the Riverbend/Etchemin team, but after a close game, the Riverbend/Etchemin team won the 2nd berth for the Canadian championship. The final then took place on Sunday afternoon to win the gold medal, the trophy, as well as to represent Quebec as Quebec 1. The girls’ final was close until the last rock of the 8th end! Congratulations to the 3 medal-winning teams:
Kénogami Soudex : Jolianne Fortin, Emy Lafrance, Megan Lafrance, Mégane Fortin, Brandon Lafrance
Riverbend/Opémiska : Léanne Fortin, Sarah Bergeron, Juliette Bergeron, Emmy Bélanger, Gabryelle Sasseville, Daniel Bélanger (ent.)
Pointe-Claire U-18 : Summer St James, Leonie Lamarre, Emma Nguyen, Wynter Schaap, Sonny St James (ent.)
On the boys’ side, Grand-Mère TALL (Q1) lost to Des Collines Réfrigération Gagnon (Q2) and had to face Pointe-Claire to get their ticket to the final. After an 8-2 win over Pointe-Claire, everyone had to hold their breath during the final! There was only one berth for the Canadian Championship, so only the winner of the final could secure their spot for the Canadian Championship. Grand-Mère TALL won on the last rock of the extra end and will represent Quebec at the Canadian Championships. They decided to take Team Pointe-Claire member Zachary Janidlo (bronze medal) with them as an alternate for the Canadian championships. We would like to congratulate the winning teams:
Grand-Mère TALL : Raphaël Tremblay, Mathis Arsenault, Thomas Lauzon, Justin Lapointe, Jean-Francois Tremblay (ent.)
Des Collines Réfrigération Gagnon : Pierre-Olivier Roy, Louis-François Brassard, Jacob Lepage, Thomas Corbeil, Jean-Sébastien Roy (ent.)
Pointe-Claire : Zachary Janidlo. Owen Paterson, Nicolas Janidlo, Cole Richard, Coby Olszewski, Stephen Janidlo (ent).
The provincial champions will represent Quebec at the U-18 Canadian Championship in Ottawa from February 4 to 10, 2024. Both teams will be joined by the Riverbend/Opémiska team as the QC2 team on the girls’ side.
